Exploring Santa Cruz + Capitola, CA Jan. 4th 2014

A couple of weeks ago we changed our work schedule so we wouldn’t have to work at the restaurant on Saturdays anymore. Today was the first Saturday we didn’t have to work since we got married. One of our favorite things to do is to ride the bike and go explore; today we decided to do exactly that! Our first stop was the beach in front of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. There we placed our sheet on the sand, got comfortable and read for a good hour or two. The book we are reading together is “Visions of Glory: One Man’s Astonishing Account of the Last Days” by John Pontius. I have already read it and absolutely LOVED it! I remember reading it in just 4 days. I could not stop reading it. I know Tom is really enjoying it as well. After reading for a couple of hour we decided to move around and take some pictures. In Santa Cruz I spotted the sailboat. After I captured what I consider the perfect shot, we got on the bike and went on to explore south of Santa Cruz. We stopped at a few spots and photographed a couple of beaches. As we were leaving Santa Cruz, Tom noticed hundreds of surfers on this particular beach. When I first glanced I thought they were seals. That is where the totem pole was too. We continued our exploration along the ocean and quickly enough we found ourselves in Capitola. There Tom found a spot where the rest of the pictures were taken like the sunset ones, the ship, the fox tails and Tom’s brand new Honda CB 500 F. At first it didn’t look like much. It was a dead end road. The closer we got to the edge the more beautiful the whole picture became. We were on top of a cliff and had an amazing view of the ocean. This made me think of how sometimes we look at people and don’t think much of them. Or how sometimes we judge them by the few facts we know. In a world where we all are fighting a battle, finding this spot was a good reminder of cultivating kindness towards everyone. Just how we found a beautiful vista at the end of this dead end road, I am sure we can find beauty in every person. We just need to be willing to look at people with kindness and positivity. Though it may not always be easy to do, it is very much needed and appreciated. We are all children of our loving Father in Heaven and thus we must strive to always look at each other the way he does.
